Literature Review Rough Draft

Puberty Suppression: A Review of Literature Archie Kipp University of Iowa Introduction              Chances are that you’ve never wanted to physically transition to another sex as, “A survey of 10,000 people undertaken in 2012 by the Equality and Human Rights Commission found that 1% of the population surveyed was gender variant, to some extent.” (2016, para 38). Described as, “a conflict between a person's physical or assigned gender and the gender with which he/she/they identify” (Parekh, 2016, Para. 1), Gender Dysphoria(GD) seems to be at the epicenter of debate and controversy despite only applying to a small amount of the population. Some see men wearing dresses and perceive them as lost individuals who crave attention and ought to be seen as a threat to morality and a standard of culture. Others fight for the rights of Gender Dysphoric people’s and seek to make treatment f...

Article Summaries

A. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3114100/ -  I. The main purpose of this paper is to summarize and review the data on the implications of puberty suppression in children and adolescents.  II. The main results and conclusions of the paper suggest that puberty suppression when used in cases where adolescents express lots of gender dysphoria were beneficial. Psychological benefits have been shown in the studies, however more research is definitely necessary.  III. The research methods of this paper were to overview other case studies done by previous researchers and summarize the findings from 1998 when the first GnRH study was conducted up until the release of the article, and explore whether it beneficial for people.  IV. This paper is relevant to my topic because it shows what the impact of a sample of adolescents who experience gender dysphoria has on the adolescent brain. Topic Proposal

For my topic on my literature review I am going to research and then report on Morality and it's relationship with different cultures. Morality is described as what is considered good and bad in a society, and we know that different society and cultures exist in our modern world. What I want to explore is, if morality changes, how does it do so and what is the impact of the mixing of differing views of morality. 1. https://search.lib.uiowa.edu/primo-explore/fulldisplay?docid=TN_informaworld_s10_1080_03057240_2010_497613&context=PC&vid=01IOWA&lang=en_US&search_scope=default_scope&adaptor=primo_central_multiple_fe&tab=default_tab&query=any,contains,morality%20culture&facet=tlevel,include,peer_reviewed&facet=tlevel,include,online_resources&facet=rtype,include,articles&facet=topic,include,Philosophy&offset=0 2. https://search.lib.uiowa.edu/primo-explore/fulldisplay?docid=TN_informaworld_s10_1080_03057240_2010_497609&context=P...

Topics

Academic Journal - https://academic.oup.com/pq/issue/69/277 Possible Research Topics - One abstract that I read (https://academic.oup.com/pq/article/69/277/721/5487583/) delved into if somebody was in the morally wrong position if they are are good-intentioned but have an un-awareness of the situation. Another (https://academic.oup.com/pq/article/69/277/795/5499124/) discussed the psychological impact of the use of slurs by the people who use them and the receivers of them. The last article abstract I read (https://academic.oup.com/pq/article/69/277/678/5519404/) that talked about the modern context of libertarianism and acting freely. Topic Interests - Overall I was very interested into the variables and factors that go into the morality of people. Even if we may have good intentions and wellbeing, the social factor and the environment may have just as much of an impact. I was also interested into the slurs article a little bit but not too much.
